The Life in Music
A lot of times when I hear the level of creativity and artistry put into making some of the music we have today, I can't help but imagine just how much we'd be missing as human beings if we didn't have music.
Some people might argue that we won't miss what we don't have, but I think so far we discovered sounds it would only be a matter of time before we discovered music eventually. Presently there are so many different genres of music and many musicians have started experimenting by fusing different sounds from different places to form a new kind of sound.
During the years growing up i used to wonder how we discovered music and this was easily answerable with common sense as I grew up, the only logical answer should be nobody. There's just too much land mass difference separating many cultures and people for music to have just originated in one place. It means our love for sounds and in turn music is something that is innate in us regardless of location.
We know of many tribes which have different dancing rituals which involve musical like sounds and chants. Some joyful, some sorrowful, some for bravery, some to instill fear in enemies. Today music has grown beyond just showing your art, it has become a form of business on its own.
Nigeria where I live is a country with a diverse number of people each having different cultures, but one thing we can all agree on is that our music is one of our biggest exports so far. Big name musicians like Wizkid, Davido, BurnaBoy are some of the biggest names on the continent and beyond.
My friend once said when it comes to music, you don't always have to understand the lyrics to feel the vibe. This is very true as although I don't understand the lyrics but I listen to a lot of songs by Latin American musicians like Ozuna.
Music can help you go through trying moments, or moments of joy. Sometimes when you wanna have fun, you listen to something different from when you're going through a heartbreak. There's just so many different types of music correlating with our different emotional states that you begin to understand there's Life in Music.
