Sometime early this year, I think around February I made a post about my first job interview and how it went. It's now four months down the line and i still don't have a job. A lot of these has to do with a number of reasons firstly my country is the most populous in Africa and secondly we have a very high percentage of unemployed youths.
Getting a job itself is almost like a battle, then getting one with a good pay would best be described as a miracle. If both are difficult, the chances of getting a job where you actually love what you're doing and can solve your financial problems is quite slim.
Minimum salary was set at thirty thousand naira (about $50) after much reluctance from the government, already this amount is even unreasonable. That was about two years ago, today prices of basic goods have even soared.
At the first interview, they offered twenty five thousand naira (approximately $42). Meaning if I worked for twenty days a month, the pay would be $2.1 for each day. With calculations for transportation and feeding, this money was gone so I had to decline.
It's been four months and I've only survived so far online on the internet. Writing on sites like Hive amongst others, then investing in crypto from time to time (with both profits and losses) has given a sort of stability over the last few months. But I do not like all my egg in one basket, I love the idea of choice that a day job alongside trading and writing would afford me.
The recent dip has given me pause on whether to channel my energy towards learning as much as I can and going fully crypto or still keep hopes up on landing a well paying day job. The rest of the year, particularly the next few months will play a major role in my decision.
You could open up a shop and sell stuff or something as well as have these sites. I joined Steemit back in 2017 due to unemployment. I've talked about it on my blog
