I tied for first place in my division in the disc golf tournament today. I knew I was going to have to play better than usual to have a chance. I didn't get any personal best round but at least I played close to where I know I can.
I tend to get very nervous in tournaments and during the first part of the round I was jittery. I did manage to throw under control but missed a few putts that I can usually make.
On hole three I threw my disc a bit high and nose up and it stalled in the wind and landed short. Hole three is a water carry and I was lucky that it made it over the water. The other three card mates made it over fine but the fourth card mate hyzered out too far left and dropped in the rough. We were all helping find it but it was lost and he had to throw again off the tee and take a penalty point.
This took a bit of time, (the rules require everyone on the card to search for three minutes) but the card behind us was not crowding us yet. I had difficult lie in a bush and was struggling to get my footing when I heard a, "hurry up" off in the distance.
It's not my fault, I thought to myself but didn't say anything. Someone else said, "What's your hurry? Nobody is crowding us."
I ended up making a reasonable throw from the position but I played for a bogey on the hole since I could not get the distance I needed on the second throw.
On the next hole, I'm looking for my main distance driver and it's not in my bag. "Where's my Shryke disc?" I thought to myself. Then I remembered that I forgot to pick it up out of the bush because I was in a hurry, lol.
I should have a spare main disc when in a tournament because, at that point, it was too far to go walk back to get the disc. The other main distance disc I have is a bit more stable and does not go as far.
This view today on hole three is looking back towards the tee pad from near where my disc landed:
Later on, in the round, I heard another, "Hurry up."
I think it was directed at no one in particular but I chose to look in his direction and said, "I've got two speeds, slow and stop." Lol.
All in all, it was a very fun tournament and I enjoyed playing with everyone on the card. I did end up going back and recovering my disc after the round was over and I got a new disc and a cup for playing in the tournament. I also found a couple of discs while helping search for throws that went into the rough from card mates. (I managed to stay out of the rough and in bounds this tournament. Nice.)
