The excitement of Indonesia's independence was huge. The people who lived in suffering under the Japanese occupation that faced the second World War rejoiced in the euphoria of independence.

The euphoria can be seen from the various independence graffiti scattered in many places, such as the trams.

The photo above shows people cramming a tram covered in graffiti, probably in Jakarta in November 1945. I have colored the photo with palette.fm. Below is the original photo from LIFE.
