Switzerland ended a work-at-home order after authorities relaxed restrictions on the Covid-19 pandemic on Wednesday. As reported by Reuters, swiss authorities' concerns are starting to wane over cases of infection triggered by the Omicron variant.
On Thursday, quarantine rules and work-from-home orders expired over further easing measures in consultation with regional authorities to run until Feb. 9. A final decision on how to proceed is due on February 16.
"The government has noted positive developments in hospitals: Despite record high infection rates, there is no overload and intensive care unit occupancy is decreasing," the government said.
"The condition may be due to high immunity from the population due to vaccinations and previous diseases," he added.
Omicron variants of Covid-19 are less likely to cause severe cases than previous variants of the virus, he added.
"Signs of an acute crisis are coming to an end and an endemic phase could begin," the government said.
Switzerland will lift the requirement for people who test positive for Covid-19 to be isolated for five days, saying the high number of infections has made the measure a loss of importance.
On Wednesday, more than 41,000 new cases were reported in Switzerland bringing the total to 2.29 million since the start of the crisis. So far, 12,403 people have died from the coronavirus in the country and neighboring kingdom liechtenstein.
