Hello everyone, this is my post for the hivegarden community. As I said in a previous garden post, it's the rainy season here, and of course it's time for the rice harvest.
Rice harvesting in Aceh has become a culture and tradition. People harvest simultaneously. We will see the yellowed rice begin to disappear slowly and leave the straw. In accordance with the times, rice harvesting here is already using technology.
Now people harvest by using machines or tractors to cut rice. In this way, the work will be easier, because in addition to saving energy, it also saves time. Because the tractor mower immediately gives results that are ready to be sold.
After being cut, it is immediately led to clean rice seeds without straw. But this cannot be done in rice fields. Since there is also a very muddy and deep paddy field area, this can result in the rice cutter tractor sinking into the mud.
Well, for fields like this, we have to harvest in the traditional way, let's see how.
Manually Cut:
To harvest rice in muddy fields, we have to cut it manually with a sickle. After everything is ready to be cut, we have to dry it on the straw a day or after a day so that later when it is stored in a sack it doesn't rot. After drying we collect the vehicle to continue in the second stage.
Manual grinding with feet:
Well, in the next stage, we will knock rice seeds out of straw in the way our ancestors did, that is, by trampling them down until the rice seeds fall out. There are also those who use another method, namely by hitting it on the wood until it falls out. However, to make it easier, people usually use thresher machines that were purchased specifically before the rice cutter tractor was introduced.
Separating rice from straw:
After the second stage is ready and the rice has fallen. Next we will separate the rice from the straw. After that the rice is ready to be put in sacks for storage or sale. This is the traditional way left by our ancestors. Even though the technology is now very sophisticated, there are still people who use this method when harvesting. In addition to preserving culture, this method can also maintain the habitat of rice fields in order to remain sustainable.
