It's early Autumn on the calendar, but Summer is long gone up here in Northern Canada. The colours are incredible - look at my tomatoes!
Ripening in newspaper are a bunch of Amish Paste tomatoes. And below, an Old German tomato:
And of course, the leaves! Here's the view from my back deck:
I took this closeup of some plant and fungal life on the lawn:
And a few of these little fun guys...
That's not the only thing I've found on the grass recently! Set your lunch aside for a moment and check out this giant pile of crap:
I'm pretty sure that's bear poop, right in the back of the yard, beside the garden. Maybe it came along during the night? Looks like it has been feasting on berries and fruit, probably from nearby orchards and farms, getting fat for winter. I found some new footprints in the main garden:
I'll speak with neighbors and find out if bears visit here often. I'm glad my children weren't involved, and none of my crops were stolen.
The latest daily update shots:
The sunflowers continue to shine!
A closeup shot for @oneray:
Autumn has brought cool weather at night, and plenty of rain. Other than some lettuce, the garden is finishing up for the year. It has been a success, and I'm pleased what I've been able to accomplish here in my first year. I'm pretty far North for growing tomatoes, but I pulled it off! Despite dealing with heart failure and other health problems. Next year is going to be amazing!
Keep on growing!

Beautiful colors there buddy! Use the bear poop as fertilizer!!! 😂🧸💩
The close-up of the sunflower was beautiful, I really liked it. I am impressed with bear poop, because it can be fertilizer in my opinion.
And more tomatoes! I love tomatoes! Especially with bread.

Vielen Dank und LG!
That fresh tomatoes would make my breakfast perfect.
Let's plan to have a veg feast together, and celebrate health and freedom.
We have a lot of creatures visiting the garden... but BEARS is definitely not one of them, lol! (I breathe a GREAT sigh of relief as I say that) because earlier today... I realised that as much as I love birds, I am also pretty scared of them!!! There was this little "mossie" as we call it here in South Africa - which has found its way into my kitchen... and the debacle to get it out was nothing short of entertaining for the fly on the wall ... no doubt! :D
Your tomatoes are GORGEOUS!!
My mom once introduced me to a "black tomato". I have the seeds and hope to plant it some time soon.
Ooh, yes there are some "black" tomato varieties that are quite stunning. Some I've grown turn a kind of brown colour, and then deep red, and finally a kind of purple. I hope you do try those seeds! As long as they've been stored somewhere safe, they should germinate.
Thanks for your comment : )
Hoping so too! Would love to see them turn purple!!!!
How I love macro photography!
It is the invisible world before our eyes and those flowers look radiant and full of life.
Thank you very much for taking those photos.
I'll take the close-up as well, not just Ray, super dupper photo! :))
Oh sunflowers 🌻 When we plucked it in childhood and ate seeds from them)
Mmm yes, the seeds can be roasted, or even fried, or baked. A very nutritious and tasty food, high in oil and protein.
Sunflower 🌻 is very beautiful
Congratulations! 🏆
