Early Spring Garden Update

in garden •  2 years ago

Doing my best up here in Northwestern BC, Canada... where winter could return at any moment in April. The ground has thawed and I am digging up the lawn, by hand, tiny sections at a time. Can't plant a garden until you have a garden!

The above was after my 2nd attempt. With my health issues and raising young children, I can only put in an hour a day right now.

I did have a good day yesterday, and doubled the size:

And today, another expansion:

Here's how it looked last week:

And my plan is something like this:

4 main gardens. I'm currently about 1/4 done the lower left garden. In other words, I'm about 1/16th (6%) complete.

Down the left is the garlic patch. I don't know if I'm going to rip up that grass, or not. Here's what it looks like now:

To my surprise, the scoops I dug out of the lawn in November are still intact. It was easy to pull one up and have a look underneath...

Good to see my garlic is alive! Let's hope for a long vibrant Spring, and harvest in about 3 months. This is my first living thing since having to move to a cold Northern town where I don't know anyone. Putting down roots!

Growing food is something I've been passionate about my whole life. It's in my blood, and my parents encouraged and demonstrated it. As did my grandparents, and they all passed on some of their knowledge and love of gardening. I've never tried it this far North, and my nerves and heart are going haywire, but I will give it my best effort. Stay tuned to see what I manage to accomplish!

That's how I work on physically demanding projects, so I don't injure myself, one small bit every day. It's looking good! You've got this.

It looks like you barely scratched the surface and now the real work comes, right? ;)

Good job, am trying too to make garden for myself here, but till searching for available land.

There is some improvement already . The last time it was still a small hole. Doing it day by day, will eventually lead you to the finished line.

Such a large space you got there I’ve just been working on my balcony

A lot smaller tho lol

You will do some great things there for sure now the snows gone

Habe a lovely start into the gardening season buddy! 🌿🌵🌱🌲🌳🌿🧄🥦🥬🥒🌶️🌽🥕🍌🍋🍊🍉🍇🍈🍑🍒🍓🥜🌰🧅
