Current conditions here are just right for fungi - moderate temperatures and plenty of moisture. Beautiful magic mushrooms keep popping up all around me!
My wife @MediKatie spotted these ones down the street, and we went out and grabbed them! I'm interested to try microdosing these amanita muscaria (fly agaric) mushrooms, a treatment for PTSD, chronic pain, and insomnia.
I really liked that cute little button (in the center of the picture), so I decided to place it at the top of our dehydrator, whole. The rest got sliced up and laid out in the lower levels.
I took a photo every hour or so...
It's almost totally dry in the last photo.
This species contains ibotenic acid and muscamol. It is usually dried, to convert some of the ibotenic acid into muscamol. Both are psychoactive, but the former tends to be associated with unwanted effects like nausea, while the latter tends to be associated with therapeutic effects like relaxation.
I did a post a couple days ago here, showing off some foraged amanita muscaria, including several of the yellow "formosa" variant:
Update!
That first batch is completely dried. A lot of moisture was removed, but the yield was still quite impressive. Should keep me in microdoses for a while! Maybe even a few macrodoses, who knows...
And a closeup of the dried strips in that jar:
Please note! I am not trying to encourage anyone to use medicinal mushrooms. But if you do, make sure you know what you're doing before you forage ANY mushroom. This post is meant to show my appreciation for this part of our natural ecosystem, that also has interesting and potentially-healing interactions with our bodies and minds.
It has been quite a pleasure to find these lovely specimens over the past few days, and share them with you visually on the blockchain.

That was fun finding even more today and seeing some shaggy manes :)
You have a wide variety of mushrooms here. In my country I have seen few of them, but they do not grow large and are white. When I return I will be waiting to take some photos and share with you. I wouldn't dare try a garden mushroom, because I don't know everything about it. The closest thing I've eaten is mushrooms, which look like a fungus, but those have very high prices.

Good vibes
It's always safe to observe, photograph, and learn about a mushroom you find in Nature! They are quite interesting forms of life.
This is rly interesting I tried mushrooms a few times I feel I’m done now tho but never tried micro dosing but I know it’s meant to be good for certain things and depression. I’m way too scared to eat mushrooms I find tho as judt don’t know enough and know it can be rly dangerous when got wrong but great find!
@MediKatie has been microdosing a few nights now, and she says it's calming, pleasant, and seems to be helping her disorganized thinking. She plans to increase the dose each night until she feels it's more than enough, and then back off slightly from there.
Definitely, you have to know what type of mushroom can be beneficial to your health and have positive effects in the treatment of a condition.
I wish, dear friend, that you can find the result you want when consuming these mushrooms.
That's very true, friend. Like plants, and even like animals, there are certain varieties that are poisonous, or toxic, or just simply unhealthy. Some must be harvested a certain way. Others must be prepared a certain way. Others are nutritious or medicinal in some parts, and poisonous in other parts. We must educate ourselves on what we are putting into our bodies, and take responsibility for our actions. In the case of wild mushrooms, much care must be taken before consuming, but once we have experience with a particular type, it can be very beneficial! Nature provides so much for us.
Wow I haven't seen this type of mushroom before. In our place there are some types that usually grows during rainy season. Anyways, thank you so much for this trivia.
Yes, they like it moist!
This type of mushroom 🍄🍄🍄 is the one shown in many cartoons and other depictions. Some believe it is the origin of the "Santa Claus" character. Others believe it is the real "apple" in the garden of Eden (because it granted those who ate it special knowledge). It's the mushroom in the "Alice in Wonderland" story. And in the Super Mario Brothers video game franchise. : ))
What can you do with those dudes??? Are those good for a nice trip!?!?
🍄😵💫👽🤪😃
They are! There are 2 main categories of "magic" mushrooms... one contains psilocybin, the other contains muscamol. These ones (amanita muscaria) are the second type! I've never tried them. But I've tried the psilocybin kind a few times, and they're quite amazing. I have much respect for the shrooms : D
I would looooove to go on a trip!!! 😍😍🤩🍄
Thanks for sharing @drutter! I didn't know much about mushrooms. I only knew that there are those that can be eaten. I have tried those that are found in the ricefield in the rotten rice hay.
