Ulam for Todayđ (Monggo/Munggo)
â˘Monggo is famous for being a Filipino comfort food recipe.. It's a simple and hearty dish that I grew up with, I feel like monggo deserves a place in the more popular section of filipino food partner with adobo or lumpia đ¤¤đđ
â˘Every Filipino family makes it often and has their own version, my monggo recipe is the variation of the authentic Filipino version.
â˘In the Philippines monggo is considered as (ulam) a food consisting of more protein that is eaten with rice.
INGREDIENTS:
â˘1 onion (sliced thinly)
â˘6 cloves garlic (minced)
â˘1 large tomato (sliced thinly)
â˘4 packs pork chicharon
â˘1 tablespoon cooking oil
â˘â
kl. monggo
â˘1 pc ginger(sliced thinly)
â˘1 pc. green chili
â˘5-6 cups water
â˘1 bunch of malunggay leaves
â˘2 pcs.fried galunggong fish
â˘salt to taste and seasoning (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS:
â˘Add the cooking oil to pot and set the medium heat.
â˘Saute the garlic and onions until aromatic.
â˘Add the tomatoes and cover the pot.
â˘Add water and monggo then bring to a boil.
â˘Keep boiling until the monggo becomes soft (about 45 mins.) Add more water to keep the liquid from disappearing, otherwise the monggo will burned.
â˘When the monggo are cooked, add the fish and the chicharon.
â˘Add the salt and the seasoning.
â˘Add the malunggay leaves.
*This will surely become a go-to for cold or rainy days!
