Last August 08, 2021, was a very important day of my life. My boyfriend asked my hand from my father. We called here in Camotes as Pamalaye ( Cebuano term) or Pamanhikan (Tagalog term) is the traditional way of asking the hand of the bride from her parents. It's when the groom asks permission from the parents to marry the bride.

During this meeting, various important matters related to the upcoming wedding are also discussed, such as the wedding date, the expected expenses, and the selection of principal sponsors. This tradition highlights the importance of family and community involvement in the marriage process and ensures that both families are informed and prepared for the wedding ceremony.

During Pamalaye, the family and relatives of both the bride and the groom gather together, along with their neighbors and friends, to witness the union of the couple. The family of the groom is expected to bring food to share with everyone present, including the presiding officer of the Pamalaye. This tradition is a way of showing hospitality and respect for the community, as well as celebrating the union of the couple.
