Handloom clothes are very famous in Sri Lanka. They are woven by machines that operate by hand and are used for a wide variety of applications. Especially handloom sarees are very popular here. Also, they are good for bedsheets, pillowcases, tablecloths, and even towels. Vibrant colors of handloom cloths add an elegant look to various interior decors.

A few days back my mother and I went to town to purchase some clothes to use in our house. She wanted to purchase a tablecloth and I wanted to purchase some serviettes. Mother took me to Ruhunu Ransalu Shop(රුහුණු රන්සළු) in Baddegama Town. Eventhough it was there for years, this was the first time I visited.

This is a clothing shop that runs under some kind of government authority, which promote local products and materials. Mainly they sell handloom clothes, and also some other things like clay pots. It is located next to the Baddegama clock tower. There is a pleasant lady in the shop who supports you very well to find what you want.

Speaking about their items, they have a good collection of clay pots and plates with different designs. You can find bowls and flower pots too.

My mother normally purchases pillowcases and bedsheets from there. As I experienced are really pleasant in color and also very durable. They provide term payment facilities, hence my mother had purchased a whole bunch of bedsheets, pillow covers, and tablecloths.

On this day we purchased some towels. You may have experienced that some towels do not absorb water well. But handloom towels are very good at absorbing water.

I purchased serviettes, 165 LKR per each. There were plenty of beautiful clothes, and I loved the colors they had.

We received a bag made with recycled bags as the packaging for the items we purchased. They have a quality service compared to all the other clothing shops in this area. Highly recommended.

Like I said, I'm excited to go out shopping; If it is necessary to buy new clothes, you have to do it.

The only thing I'm wondering is what the words that appear in the last photo mean, since Google Translator can't do the miracle of translating an image, haha

That words are from our native language " Sinhala" with a different font type.😎

Wow, but in your country, English is the second official language, or does not everyone speak English?

Oh, you've got some shopping again! Thanks for sharing! I got to learn what handloom clothes are.👍
