Nigeria Kept Dangote in One Position for 11 Years....
In 2012, two African billionaires - Aliko Dangote and Johann Rupert first featured on the billionaire’s list. Rupert was worth $5.1 billion, while Dangote’s networth was $11.2 billion 11 years ago.
However, in the last 11 years, Rupert’s wealth has grown by 70.5%, gaining $3.6 billion over the years, but Dangote’s fortune has increased by only $900 million, representing 8% growth during the same period.
Johann Rupert is a South African while Aliko Dangote is Nigerian. The South African grew by 70.5% in 11 years while the Nigerian grewv by only 8% in the same period of time. While this may be dismissed as Billionaire's networth, it is also true about the middle class citizens of both countries. If you lived in South Africa in the last 11 years and worked as hard as necessary, you would have grown by at least 70% while the Nigerian with the same amount of efforts would have grown by only 8% - in a legit business.
There are 18 billionaires from Africa. None of them is new to the list which means that Africa has not produced a new Billionaire in over 15 years.
The 18 African billionaires hail from seven different countries. South Africa and Egypt each have five billionaires, while Nigeria has only three and Morocco has two. There are more Billionaires in South Africa than in Nigeria.
By the way, Dangote's networth is politically influenced - by Obasanjo's unfair lavish import and export waivers. Under Obasanjo, Dangote's networth went from about $2 Billion to over $9 Billion in One year.
Summary: Nigeria has been unfair to both her rich and her poor. Think about the growth rate in other African countries when you vote.
