Socialization is a process through which a person acquires knowledge, skills, the beliefs and values of the society in order to become a useful member of the society.
It is also the process by which we learn to become member of our society. The child at birth is a biological being, he is physically helpless and therefore depends on other people for everything. He can not speak and therefore can not communicate with others about his pain or pleasures.
But generally, as he grows older, he becomes physically independent of other people, he learns how to walk and run about, he learns how to feed himself when hungry and even chooses what to eat.
He learns a language through which he communicates with other people a means by which he acquires knowledge about a lot of things in physical and social environment. All these processes of learning is refers to as socialization.
Socialization goes on throughout life time.
AGENTS OF SOCIALIZATION.
FAMILY:- The family consists of the father, mother and the children. The family is the first and important agent of socialization. The child is socialized through the society by parents and other elder members of the family.
SCHOOL:- The school is a place where people are make to develop their intelligence and taught what is expected from them in the society. In the modern world, schooling starts from creche, kindergarten, nursery, basic classes, secondary and tertiary levels.
PEER GROUP:- The peer group or age group influence one another through intervention. The peer groups ranges from children, teenagers, the youth and the adult.
RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS:- In the world generally, there a lot of religion but the most prominent ones are Christianity and Islamic religion and the reason is because they have institutions which are churches and mosques. There are good norms and values taught through the different church programmes.

- MASS MEDIA:- Such as radio, television, newspaper, etc. Teacher educates people about their societal values, norms and beliefs through their different programmes.
