Digestion is the breakdown of large molecules of food into absorbable form. The digestive system is responsible for food to get digest in our body.
Digestive system is made up of the organs which takes in food, prepare it for use in the body, take out the parts that are useful, and put the rest aside for ejection. The digestive organs are the mouth, the teeth, the gullet (oesophagus), the stomach, the small intestine and the large intestine.
Food is taken in through your mouth, is chewed and broken down into smaller pieces with the aid of the teeth and tongue and mixed with saliva, a liquid which is produced by salivary glands in our cheeks.
The food which has been softened and mixed with saliva in the mouth passed down the gullet (also known as oesophagus) into the stomach where the food is burning up in the stomach.
In the small intestine, the pancreatic juice and intestinal juice complete the digestion of the food. The starchy substance (carbohydrates) by this time have been broken down into the much smaller molecules of glucose, the fats into smaller molecules of fatty acids, and the proteins into smaller molecules of substance called amino acid these are all substance that the body can make use because they can pass through the walls of the small intestine directly into the blood stream.
This happens through structures called "villi" in the walls of the small intestine.
There are some substance which we can not digest at all, one of this is called cellulose. This passes through the elementary canal unchanged and into the large intestine as waste product (excreta).
The excreta pass to rectum and they are get rid of through the anus, the usual brown colour of excreta is due to a liquid called "bile" which helps in the digestive process. This liquid comes from the liver.
The above analysis is simply how food get digest in the body.
