If you are Nigerian and on social media then you might have came across the gruesome videos or pictures of victims who were murders by some Gun-men on the 5th of June 2022. The saddest part is it was done in church, to church members, during a church service. Not just men and women, kids too- innocent kids who knew nothing about the wickedness of this world were murders gruesomely. My heart bleeds as I write this article.

Where did we go wrong ?

How did it get to the point where Gun-men can just walking into a place of worship in a town where they don’t live and kill innocent people after which they walked away freely. Why would they kill innocent kids like dogs and murder people who haven’t done anything to them. Was going to church a crime? What about the families of this people that were killed.

I saw a post that was made by a boy who said he is now an orphan because both his parents were shot dead by this evil set of men. How do you console a person like that, this country has truly failed him.

Not only were over 30 men and women, children inclusive shot dead a lot of them were injured severely and as I write this article they are currently fighting for their lives. In fact the most hospitals housing them are in need of blood donors.

I saw a picture of baby that was picked at the scene where the massacre happened. It was said that he was lying close to his death mother. People are trying to find any of his relatives.

        Where was the security ?

Nigeria is a country where the security personnel in charge only show strength when dealing with regular citizens like the youth maybe for a style of hair-cut or tweets against the government on social media upon the fact that we are suppose to be a democratic country.

When it’s time for them to step-up and protect innocent citizens from attacks like these they are always no where to be found. It is to my understanding that different geographical zones in Nigeria have set-up local security organizations to help fight terrorist attacked and crimes like this but yet different these kinds of attacks happen every single day in this country and nobody accounts for it. Nobody is arrested and the culprits usually go scot-free. What a sad thing behold.

There is a picture circulating on social media of an elderly lady holding what is a lifeless body of her grand-child who came to visit her from overseas. She was shot and killed in the church.

I have a theory. It’s either this bandits or murderers, sons of the devil whatever they may call theirselves have people protecting them in high places and maybe..just maybe this is a game of politics to those in power.

A lot of innocent souls lost yesterday and for what? Nothing just pure human wickedness. May their souls rest in perfect peace. This reminds me of the shooting that took place on the 20th of October 2020 at lekki-toll gate in Lagos. Just unnecessary killings.

In this county.. no stable power supply, cost of living high, schools are on strike for over 3 months, no jobs, no good roads, bandits everywhere kidnapping and killing people, we aren’t safe on the road, in the streets, at home and now in even in a place of worship this is too much.

I don’t have a lot of things to say with this article because I am sure a lot has been said in the past. All I know is my heart is heavy and the way things are going, getting worse day after day we would be lucky if a civil war doesn’t break-out in the next 2 to 3 years. Let’s just keep praying for our family and friends. And if you have any families or friends in Nigeria always keep them in your prayers. Don’t forget to always ask God to protect them because we need it.

In all everyone should look out for their friends and neighbors. Call your long time friends find out if they are doing okay. Reach out to as many as you can, because life is shot nobody knows what would happen tomorrow.

I have said my peace. Thank you for reading•
