I grew up to meet this tradition and somehow, I didn't thought it was going to fade away with time. I had always practice it weather or not I believed in it. Infact, I couldn't really say it or sing it correctly at a time..not to talk about the meaning. yet, I enjoyed every bit of it🤩
Let me tell you about this tradition that excites me.
As kids, whenever our tooth falls out, we would take it to my mum. She will then lead the tooth owner in this beautifully crafted indigenous song all the way to the front of our house.. we usually move away from the building, then sing and dance along from a distance to the front of the house. ( just the way you dance to the alter for a Thanksgiving in church) We ( my mum and the tooth owner) would move some distance away from the house so we could dance back to the front of the house. Then the tooth owner will trow his or her tooth to the roof of the house. This is done with some measure of strength so the tooth does not fall back to you.
I love when my tooth falls back to me because I will have to sing again before re trowing it😅
While at it, everyone around watched with excitement. It was kind kind of fun.
Infact we have to plead with a younger sibling to help them in trowing up their tooth to the roof.
Let me give a short interpretation of what this song says:
It says the rabbit should go with it's own tooth
That the lizard should bring it's own tooth to them.
This is so because the dentition of a rabbit is quite rough. While the Lizard🦎 has tiny set of dentition which is preferred.
And here I am thinking all the while that I would be able to do this with my kids too. Only for civilization to come rob me of it..
Last month my son came home from church or so and said his tooth had fallen off, in excitement I asked for his tooth but he told he didn't bring it home. I was like how would you just trow your tooth just anywhere. But I didn't mentioned anything about my experience with him. So few days ago when he told me about his tooth shaking I quickly told him to make sure I see it when it eventually falls off.
So today, apparently his tooth removed in school... I came to the living room and found him searching his back pack. He had brought everything out from it.. He was so serious. When I asked what was it he's looking for, he said his tooth. According to him, he had kept it but couldn't find it. And instead of me to accept the fact that the tooth had lost again, I choose to join him search for it 😂
Now they are asking me what I needed the tooth for..but I went mute. I had nothing to say. What should I say afterall.. It wasn't going to make any sense. They won't get it, so I don't wanted to bother them with my tale. I will tell them, hopefully when they advance in age.
For now let me just be. I am not in a good mood😭😂 I should have sang and danced already.😄
