Xylocopa latipes , the tropical carpenter bee , is a species of carpenter bee widely distributed throughout Southeast Asia . As the name suggests, these bees inhabit forests in warm tropical climates and build nests by burrowing into wood. It often makes deep long tunnels in wooden rafters, fallen trees. The color of this bee is glossy black with blue-green or fuscous metallic purple wings in the sun.
