📷 Fabulous Oriental Palace of Stamboli

in blurtstory •  4 years ago

Greeting to all Blurtorians! Considering the architectural monuments of the past is quite fascinating, and I, being in the Crimea, could not miss one of the brightest sights — the dacha Stamboli Palace, which has become the hallmark of Feodosia.

The architecture of the Palace is very peculiar. It seems that you were transported back several centuries and found yourself in some Eastern fairy tale, in the Palace of the Sheikh or ruler of Andalusia.

This mansion was built in the art Nouveau style, for those times it was a novelty. Joseph Stamboli owned a tobacco factory in Feodosia, and the fame of his family spread far beyond the Peninsula.

If you believe the rumors, the cottage was intended as a wedding gift to the future wife, Rakhila Bobovich. Others suggest that the project of the Palace was conceived by Joseph's father, Veniamin Osipovich.

A high minaret, spacious covered galleries, terraces and many original towers, such a bright and colorful ornamental decoration give the building an unusual Oriental flavor and grandeur.

The main entrance gallery offers a wonderful view of the sea. All the projects of the Palace were made by the famous St. Petersburg architect Oscar Wegener. The construction of the building lasted for 4 years from 1910 to 1914, and it all cost quite a decent amount at that time (more than 1 million rubles).

On the second floor of the Palace, a Museum is opened today, which houses a unique center of underwater archeology of the Crimea.

For such a long period of the Palace's existence, there were many things in it: a sanatorium, a military hospital, a hotel, a pioneer camp, a Bank, and even a drug treatment center.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the dacha was bought by private individuals and turned into a restaurant. The exterior of the Palace is truly chic, made in the Moorish style and it is very interesting to look at it.

The rich decoration of the mansion consists of a variety of shades of marble, precious wood and various stucco decorations.

These walls can be considered as real works of art. Unusual ornate Oriental ornaments and stucco, well-chosen color scheme.

It even has beautiful Windows, some with mosaic glass. Once the poet Maximilian Voloshin demanded to demolish this building. He called the Palace, like many other mansions of the Feodosian rich, a tasteless bourgeois past. It's good that someone had the wisdom not to give in.

And how many flowers and greenery everywhere, bright butterflies fly.

There is also a fountain with such white angels.

The Palace itself is quite impressive, tourists could take pictures of it at least all day. I remember this tall tower, which looked like a minaret from a distance.

It has also recently been restored. I can imagine how exquisitely all these spires and hemispherical domes will look after the work is finished.

It's amazing how well everything is preserved, and if it wasn't for the scaffolding, I wouldn't have realized that so many years have passed.

Around the same fence, the same gate, as if there were no heavy historical events that the mansion experienced. The dacha is still full of flowers, birds are singing, life goes on.

Around the Palace is quite spacious, small gardens and flower beds are laid out on the territory.

I also liked the exquisite ceramic tiles on the facade. It glittered so much in the sun that one could assume that it was made of precious stones.

Even the roof can be studied for hours. All these floors, beams, structures, everything looks unusual.

Dacha Stamboli is surrounded by vegetation on all sides: these are evergreen cypresses, thuja, and elms. It's just a pity that Stamboli himself only lived here for a few years. After learning about the October revolution, Joseph and his family left Feodosia and never returned.

Numerous towers that are visible from almost any point of Feodosia, and rush to the clear blue sky.

There are very beautiful bright flowers everywhere.

I think that when all the restoration work is completed, the Palace will become even more bright and impressive.

If you are in Feodosia, I strongly advise you to look here.

I wish you pleasant and interesting trips!
