The Seer's Touch: The Curse

Liam's heart weighed heavily as he glimpsed the pain and sadness in the old man's eyes. A revelation of the ordeal he must have faced at the hand of Ahmad who betrayed him by running away with his wife, Salima and his valuables.

"I don't know your name," Liam said gently.

The old man smiled a little. "My name is Tzadiq Zani."

Liam nodded. "Tzadiq, I'm so sorry about your experience but how did you find Salima?"

"Oh, I was coming to that. You see, I did not care about the things Ahmad stole from me. I only cared about my Salima. I told two of my agents who were my close friends and we set off on a journey that night to find them.

"We found them in a hotel where they had stopped to lodge for the night. Ahmad did not expect we would come after him. When I saw my Salima, she was not herself. She was in a state of stasis and unresponsive. In anger, I fought with Ahmad as my friends took Salima outside to safety and I accidentally stabbed him in the neck.

"I didn't mean to. He was bleeding profusely but laughed as blood gurgled out of his mouth. In his dying breath, he confessed that his love spell bound Salima to him eternally and that she would never know peace because she did not choose him."

Liam frowned in confusion. Tzadiq nodded and continued heatedly.

"Yes! If Salima had chosen him, she would be herself, happily in love with him and not in a state of stasis. Ahmad was unhappy that the love spell could not override Salima's love for me. He was furious that she chose me over him.

"I remember grabbing his tunic and shaking him, asking what he meant by 'bound to him eternally'. That was when he stabbed me in the stomach area with the knife that I dropped on the carpet in shock after stabbing him. I have never known such pain in the body before.

"Ahmad worsened the pain when he confessed that he was already marked with an ancient curse by his lineage's enemies to roam the earth as a vagabond in the event of his death. He would not know peace and as such, anyone bound to him like Salima, would suffer the same fate of eternal unrest.

"When my friends returned with the police, Ahmad was dead and I was dying. I did not make it to the hospital. After I died, Ahmad was the first person I saw. He was waiting for me on this side. He laughed at me and promised to wait for as long as Salima would join him.

"I tried all means possible to warn Salima to stay alive. That was how I am able to make physical contact but aging faster is the price I paid. That's the reason I look old and tired. Sadly, my death and the effect of the love spell broke my Salima. Two months after my death, she died.

"Ahmad has been pursuing her for over a decade now. I cannot cross over to the other side without her even though the way is open for me. I stayed back to find a kragtige siener and our search led us to you. You have to help us." Tzadiq pleaded.
