Ulf jerked repeatedly, shaking the bed soaked in his sweat. Uma, his mother, ran into the room with a small towel soaked in ice-cold water. She placed it on his forehead and held him down by the shoulder on the straw mattress, murmuring words of comfort.

"Shhh, rest my boy. The dream weaver will soon be here," she whispered more to herself than to her only son.

"He's shaking again?" Lori, her sister, asked. Uma did not hear her come into the room. She nodded, not trusting her voice at that moment.
The eerie howling and whistling of the wind jiggling the wooden windows and door made her shiver as she soothed her son. Uma worried the Dream Weaver may not arrive on time because it was snowing heavily coupled with the boisterous wind. She was not ready to lose her only child.

She turned to look at Lori. "Hayes is taking too long. He should be here now with the dream weaver."

Lori shook her head, "not in this weather." Tears pooled in Uma's eyes and gently streaked down her cheeks.

"Uma," Lori whispered in sympathy and hugged her sister tight. Then a loud knock shook the wooden cabin. The sisters looked at each other.

"I think they are here," Lori said.

Uma nodded, "get the door please."

Hayes and the Dream Weaver walked into the cabin bringing in some cold and snow with them. Lori quickly shut the door. She waved towards the bedroom. "Come. He's in here."

The Dream Weaver followed Lori into the room to see Uma holding a sweaty, shivering eight-year-old boy in her arms. Uma glanced up at the man, her eyes watering slightly, a hollowness in her eyes.

The tall man covered up in a thick brown coat with snow sprinkled on it smiled in sympathy and took the boy from her. He laid his big, beefy hand on his forehead, his eyes closed for a moment.

He opened his eyes almost immediately, his brows furrowed and stared at Uma. "It's not his dream, woman," he growled, laying the boy back in bed. "He's sick with a fever is all."

Uma stared at Lori and Hayes in confusion. "I-I thought…"

"Don't think. Boil him some herbs to drink and bathe him in some before it's too late," he grumbled in irritation. "I came all the way here for nothing."

Hayes, being the man of the house, quickly intervened. "Sorry, sir. A cup of tea before you hit the road again."

"No thanks. I have to see another patient in the next town. I best be on my way."

Uma sighed in relief, tucking Ulf's hair behind his ear.

Lol... The "I-I thought…" followed by "Don't think" is the most savage line I've seen today.

We can't blame the Mum for her reaction, right? She just didn't want to take chances. Haha. I can imagine the setting of this story and the financial status of the family. If it was in their era and the Mum was a financially buoyant lady, she would have sent the child to the highest rated hospital or perhaps most prolific religious organization. That's Mums for us.

Nice reading this.

😂 Savage, eh? Mothers don't joke with their children but in this case, she misdiagnosed believing her son had nightmares!

Thanks for reading and for your support! 🙂
