Romelu Lukaku has not been without criticism this season, as his performance has not been satisfactory at Chelsea. Even so, the Blues manager Thomas Tuchel still defended the Belgian striker.
Lukaku has only scored 10 goals in 28 games this season. During 2022, he has not scored at all in the Premier League. In the match against Crystal Palace last weekend, he was even the target of criticism.
Although Chelsea were able to win 1-0, Lukaku 'disappeared' in that match. During 90 minutes, he only touched the ball seven times. This record is the lowest since 2003.
Chelsea redeemed Lukaku with a high price from Inter Milan is definitely not to be a laughing stock like that. But Tuchel insists the club will continue to support the 28-year-old striker in difficult times.
"He is in the spotlight and we will protect him. Romelu will always be part of the solution," said Tuchel, quoted by the BBC.
Sometimes, this will be experienced by a striker if he is having problems with confidence and difficulty finding space to be involved in the game when facing a tight opponent's defense.
Obviously this situation is not in our favour, nor is it Romelu's, but now is not the time to laugh at him and make fun of him.
"In my opinion, Chelsea is a strong team in defense, relying on physicality, and has a certain attitude and competitive football. We also demand our strikers in terms of defense," explained Tuchel defending Lukaku.
Lukaku has received high demands for being bought for £97.5 million last summer. During his two seasons at Inter, he scored 64 goals in 95 games. So far, he has not been able to duplicate the nicks.
