As a result of serious head injury suffered from a fall , legendary Aston Villa striker Gary Shaw is in critical condition at the hospital. Between 1981 and 1982, the 63-year-old played for Villa, a team that won the First Division, the European Cup, and the European Super Cup. He scored 20 goals during their championship-winning season, earning him the honor of PFA Young Player of the Year. Shaw came through Villa's system and played for the first squad for ten years.
He played for the team for almost 200 appearances until departing in 1988 to play football in Denmark. In 196 games with Villa, he scored 73 goals in the end. Following spells at Shrewsbury, Kilmarnock, and Walsall, he gave up his boots in 1992. Shaw played seven games and scored two goals for the U21s, although he was never awarded a cap for England.
