Newcastle and AFC Wimbledon's Carabao Cup match scheduled for tomorrow night has been rescheduled.
In addition to damage to the Plough Lane pitch, the outside of the ground has flooded as a result of heavy rain. Over the past 24 hours, storms have swept across the nation, but the damp weather has particularly affected The Cherry Red Records Stadium. A video that seems to show a massive sinkhole in one corner of the pitch has gone viral on social media. Subsequently, the refreshment area behind the stand appears fully submerged, rendering the possibility of the match proceeding as scheduled essentially nonexistent.
Newcastle's manager was supposed to have a pre match conference today by 9am but had to cancel it due to the postponment of the match.
The date of the rescheduled game is yet unknown, but if the damage is as severe as initially anticipated, the Dons may have a lot of trouble with their schedule. In League Two, Johnnie Jackson's team was scheduled to host Accrington Stanley on Saturday and Crewe the following Tuesday. To find a date in the already full schedule, the two clubs are in negotiations with EFL executives.
