It appears that Manchester United is prepared to add Michael Appleton, an old lad, to their backroom crew. The 48-year-old began his career at United before going to Preston and rising to the position of head coach. He's about to be assigned to the loan-focused transfer team by Dan Ashworth. Les Parry, a former Tranmere manager and physiotherapist, now holds the role, however he will soon be replaced. Appleton is one of Ashworth's protégés and worked with him at West Brom. They share a tight bond because he was given the opportunity to succeed as a coach at the Hawthorns under the guidance of his mentor.
Even if this is a fresh approach for Appleton, it would not be shocking to see the two working together once more because they have close ties within FA circles. Although it would be his first administrative position, he is well-versed with United's up-and-coming talent and has the connections to place them. Eight months after being let go by Blackpool, Appleton was named Charlton's manager in September of last year. However, the Championship team fired the 48-year-old barely 30 minutes after they lost to Northampton in January.
