Li Tie, who is a former chinese and Everton football player has been sentenced to 20-years in prison as a result of being found guilty for bribery.

Li, 47, admitted to assisting to arrange relationships and to offering and accepting payments.

Prior to his resignation in December 2021, the former China player was named manager of his native country in January 2020.

In November 2022, the Communist Party began an investigation into Li's actions from 2015 to 2021.

He admitted to offering and receiving more than £12.6 million in bribes in March.

Li is even accused of offering money to get a position on the Chinese national squad.

President Xi Jinping's attempts to combat corruption in Chinese sports include his indictment.
