Hey guys,
Today I would like us to look into something vital, something we all should seriously consider despite what we all think of the various courses we are offering in our various schools. This vital thing is what we all know as Skill acquisition.
According to IGI.global.com Skill acquisition is defined as the development of new skills through practice or repetition.
With what has been said above, Skill acquisition can simply be regarded as the mastering of any ability to utilize it to earn a source of livelihood.
Not everyone is privileged to work with private or public sectors with earned school certificates yet everyone is required to have at least a source of income in other to survive and carter for those he or she is responsible for. For this very reason, acquiring skills have been a very vital part of our society and over 50 percent of students who are yet to acquired certificates are already learning one skill or the other.
This is a very good thing as it will help to reduce the amount of bribery, unemployment, and insecurities in the country.
Just as a saying says "A bird at hand is better than thousands in the bush", so is a skill learned better than a promising job yet to be secured with a school certificate. This is so because there is no guarantee of white-collar jobs anywhere and the little vacancies here and there have been filled with a lot of applications.
Getting a good-paying Job currently in Nigeria requires one to have a good relationship with those in authority and that is a limitation. Therefore in other, for one to be more certain of a source of livelihood before and after school, one should acquire and develop a series of skills.
There are a lot of skills out there that when mastered can fetch one good income but some of these skills won't easily be convenient for students who are still struggling to make it through various school activities to acquire and this is mostly due to their offline nature.
Example of such skills includes;
- Tailoring
- Plumbing
- Crafting
- Hairdressing
- Make-up artistic
- Catering service
- Carpentry, etc.
Nevertheless, there are no excuses as to not acquiring skills as a student because, in as much as these few mentioned offline skills will not be convenient for students because of their time-consuming nature, there are a lot of online skills one can learn and be efficient enough to earn a good living from.
Example of such skills includes;
- Content creation
- Web design
- Programming
- Email marketing
- Copywriting
- Coding
- Vidoe editing
- Web development
- Digital marketing
- Data analysis, etc.
These above-mentioned skills are high-income skills and can easily be learned from available sources such as YouTube, Google, etc.
Skill acquisition is very essential for everyone as it will help reduce the level of unemployment, corruption, fraud, and a lot of other social vices in a state.
Students' acquiring skills will also help to reduce the burden being borne by parents and guardians because these students can afford to settle certain monetary academic needs without having to call or disturb anyone.
