Typhoon PDA Practice

I lived in Coningsby, in Lincolnshire briefly. Very close to the runway of the RAF base there. The base is a very active base, being the home of 3(F), XI(F), 12 and 29 squadrons. It is also the home of The Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight. It is an active front line base. Most days there would be some activity, usually the jets - the Eurofighter Typhoon FGR4

The Typhoon display team for 2022 is from 29 Squadron and like all previous Typhoon display teams (and other display teams) they need to pass their PDA - Public Display Authorisation. This involves a lot of flight practice, with the pilots pushing their aircraft close to its limits.

These shots are from a display practice in 2021 - the livery changed in May 2021, to a sleek black paint job, with Union Flag emblems (and it really does look the business). As you can see, the aircraft often came in very low overhead.

I miss watching the display practices, although this year's pilot, Flight Lieutenant Adam O’Hare, has passed his PDA, so now its just a matter of displays and maintaining currency.

About me:

I can mostly be found shooting models, aviation, motorsports and, when I can, wildlife. But I enjoy most aspects of photography.
