San Juan Bautista fue un caminante que andaba por el desierto tan solo alimentándose de miel e insectos. Éste llega a un rio y como es costumbre las personas se aglomeran a su alrededor ya que querían ser bautizados. Juan sorprende a todos diciéndoles que es aquel que viene: Jesús de Nazareth que le bautizará.
En Venezuela gran parte del territorio nacional se celebra la llegada de Juan el Bautista, cada 24 de junio se realizan desfiles, y bailes al son de los tambores para San Juan.
En el siguiente artículo abordaré la construcción de un tambor. En la figura 1 se puede observar un pedazo de tronco de aguacate seco, generalmente ya están huecos por dentro. Al mismo tiempo, se van haciendo orificios donde se inicia el cavado.
En la siguiente figura nos ayudamos con fuego, brasas y carbón teniendo en cuidado de que no pase a la orilla y debilite la madera.
En la tercera figura se cava al otro lado del tronco hasta unir ambas y seguidamente viene el tallado y colocación del cuero. En nuestro caso se construyo uno en pro de enseñar a un colectivo juvenil.
