Michaela Mabinty DePrince, a ballet dancer who danced on some of the largest venues in the world after fleeing war-torn Sierra Leone, has away, according to a statement from her family. She was 29 years old.
It is unknown what caused her to pass away.
After being adopted by an American couple, DePrince made her TV debut on "Dancing With the Stars" and was the subject of a documentary by the time she was 17 years old.
She became a main dancer with Dance Theatre of Harlem after completing her studies at the American Ballet Theatre's Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School and high school. The Dutch National Ballet was her dance company when she moved to the Netherlands. Later on, in 2021, she made her way back to the US and joined the Boston Ballet.
