In central Zambia, a mine collapsed, leaving at least ten people dead and an undetermined number missing, authorities reported on Monday.
Although the number of miners below ground remains unknown, authorities reported that rescue efforts were in progress. About 150 kilometers (93 miles) west of the capital, Lusaka, in the region of Mumbwa, is where the collapse took place. The collapse's cause was not immediately identified.
According to Charity Munganga Chanda, the Central Province's police commissioner, nine bodies have been found at the scene and a tenth individual passed away in a hospital. Five were hurt and receiving medical attention at the hospital.
As is typical in the nation of southern Africa, the miners are thought to be informal ones.
