The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, or NSCDC, verified the deaths of four of its seven members who were reported absent in action after being ambushed by Boko Haram terrorists. Two among the servicemen made it back to base, while one is still missing.
In a statement, NSCDC spokesperson Babawale Afolabi claimed that Ahmed Audi, the Corps' Commandant General, had expressed sympathy to the Special Squad's officers and men.
Last week, the terrorist organization Boko Haram launched a fierce attack on the squad, which was established to keep an eye on National Grid Assets in Niger State's Shiroro Local Government Area and other regions.
