According to medical associations, shooting killed at least ten people and injured 63 others during protests in Mozambique in response to disputed election results. Demonstrations broke out after Mozambique's elections commission pronounced the ruling party Frelimo the victor of the Oct. 9 election, prolonging its 49-year reign.
Parties in opposition and outsiders believed the election was tainted by fraud. Police responded to the protesters using tear gas and live bullets, according to Interior Minister Pascoal Ronda, who stated that security officers moved to restore order in the midst of violent protests.
