A bolt of lightning in a refugee camp in Uganda's northern region murdered no less than 14 people, including numerous children, according to police on Sunday.
The news release by the news media in the country said that the victims of the deadly lighthening attack were mainly members of the Palabek resettlement camp, which is mostly home to refugees migrated from South Sudan. They were participating in a prayer service in a temporary metal structure when the lightning occurred on Saturday night.
The camp is located close to the region where uganda has its border with south sudan , this region is habitated by over 80,000 people.
According to police spokeswoman Kituuma Rusoke, 34 additional persons were hurt and sent to nearby medical facilities. The victims have yet to be recognized. During the rainy season, Uganda frequently experiences deadly lightning strikes.
