The World Health Organization and local medics during one of it broadcast reported that more than 50 people had died in northwest Congo from an unidentified disease.
Most cases occurred within the space of few days and the lifespan of the victims was not more than 48hrs.
In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the most recent disease outbreak started on January 21 and has resulted in 419 cases and 53 fatalities.
The WHO's Africa branch reports that the initial occurrence in the town of Boloko started when three toddlers consumed a bat and passed away within 48 hours after developing symptoms of hemorrhagic fever.
In areas where eating wild animals is common, there have long been worries about diseases being transferred from animals to people. Nonetheless, the WHO stated in 2022 that within the past ten years, there has been a more than 60% increase in these epidemics throughout Africa.
The WHO said samples from 13 cases have been transferred to the National Institute for Biomedical Research in Kinshasa, the capital of Congo, for testing since the second outbreak of the current mystery disease started in the village of Bomate on February 9.
Every sample tested negative for Marburg and other prevalent hemorrhagic fever illnesses, including Ebola. A few tested positive for malaria.
