An explosion struck the Sapele city in Delta State on Tuesday evening, killing one person and injuring numerous others.
According to news reports, the event occurred about 6 p.m. on Wednesday at a garbage dump along Mission Road, where local thieves frequently store junk debris.
According to reports from witnesses, the explosion was caused by a homemade explosive weapon accidentally taken to the site by one among the scavengers. One of the sources told this reporter that the dead, a northerner, had his body significantly impacted by the blast.
In addition, two others, including residents near the garbage site, were reportedly critically injured.
