A car crashed into a pedestrian zone in the western German city of Mannheim, killing two people: an 83-year-old woman and a 54-year-old male.
In a statement released by the German officials, no less than five individuals suffered serious injuries while few others suffered minor ones.

Authorities detained a 40-year-old German citizen who is thought to have " tangible evidence of psychological illness" but is not thought to be associated with extremism. The suspect, a landscape gardener according to the prosecution, shot himself with a gun filled with blanks and is still in stable condition at the hospital.
