The Health Service Executive (HSE) announced that the Republic of Ireland has seen the first instance of a newer, more contagious strain of mpox. The Irish a citizen who had the Clade 1 variant of the virus, which was previously known as monkeypox, had recently come back from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The World Health Organization proclaimed an international health emergency for the virus last August, and the HSE stated that although this may be the originally Irish situation of the newer variant, it is not surprising and the public is still at low risk.
The victim is currently under intensive care in a hospital located at dublin.
According to HSE , the sickness that arises as a result of the newest variant wont affect those that have received at least two dosage of the virus or those who already had the virus.
Dr Éamonn O'Moore who is currently teh Director of National Health protection announced that together with the HSE , they are fully prepared to combat the virus.
