A longtime commander of the Lord's Resistance Army rebels had been convicted to four decades in prison by a Ugandan court on Friday for the group's atrocities committed during its 1980s war.
Thomas Kwoyelo, a child trooper became rebel commander, is serving a jail sentence for the most serious crimes he committed, including numerous allegations of murder, rape, stealing, and enslaving. Kwoyelo was found guilty of 44 of the 78 counts against him for offenses committed during 1992 and 2005.
The high court tribunal sitting in gulu , which is located in the northern city were the onethat passed the judgement. he is still permitted to appeal the case.
