In a statement released by The Niger State Emergency Management Agency spokesperson Ibrahim Audu , indicated that a boat carrying individuals via Kogi state along the river to neighboring Niger early Friday morning sunk, leaving at least 100 people—mostly women—missing after the incident. The boat was carrying those aboard to an agricultural market across the River Niger in northern Nigeria.
Right there on the scene , about eighth people were confirmed dead , local divers were also commended for there effort as they tried to rscue the remaining passengers.
The reason behind the sinking has not been verified by authorities. But according to local media, this vessel contained over 200 people, which raises the possibility that it was overcrowded.
