BlurtMOB Rebranded

in blurtmob •  3 years ago

BlurtMOB is having a slight rebranding and hence this post. The MOB part now means "Minnows Of Blurt".

The most important growth sector of any blogging ecosystem is the "middle class", sometimes known as minnows, or even dolphins. I'm not sure why such intelligent and elegant aquatic mammals would be associated with bloggers, but so be it.

I do not wish to define "minnow" in a strict way, but it strikes me as fairly obvious who they are. These users are more experienced that newbs, better quality than vote-extractors and have a median BP. The Blurt Power of a minnow should be somewhere around 10k to 100k BP. These are not strict limits, so voting won't suddenly stop if you have 101k BP. Anybody who is hung up by the numbers should change focus towards their content.

For some time now, my votes have been given to such minnows, mainly for posts that are personal, original, insightful and interesting. If your posts do not have any of these characteristics then your chances of being rewarded are close to zero. I cover a very broad range of topics, but I try not to overlap with other initiatives, so you are unlikely to see me voting on selfies or images of your pets. Yes, these are subjective qualities but so is every editorial decision ever made - anywhere.

The aim of BlurtMOB is to help minnows grow, not to help them extract rewards. So, apart from content quality, I will also look at power-downs. This takes time and is tedious, but is necessary to ensure that rewards are ploughed back into the economy. It is natural to take some profits, but if I see an account is doing nothing to grow, then votes may cease.

Apart from voting, I have started reblurting some posts. I will not reblurt every voted post, just a few each day that grab my attention. This means users can follow the BlurtMOB blog, enjoy the posts and also see the level of quality needed. You may also be interested in looking at the BlurtMOB feed.

This also means that minnows who are already being followed can promote their own favourite minnows by reblurting them - those posts will appear on my feed. This is the only way I will accept recommendations.

There is a very good reason why this account does not interact very much: I don't want to waste my time. It takes long enough to curate without engaging with begging tactics. Any user that persists in trying to get my attention will be muted. I have not used the mute function very much, but given this rebranding and renewed efforts to promote quality users, I shall have no hesitation in using it so I have less to look at. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but there are people who seem to beg for a living - I don't want their issues to become mine. There is no appeal to a higher authority - try appealing to a newspaper Editor and you'll get the idea.

Votes are gifts - try to remember that and life will be more serene.

A brief list of Questions and Answers.

How can I see the BlurtMOB feed?

You can either follow @blurtmob, or view the blog that includes the reblurts, or you can view the feed, and bookmark it depending on your favourite platform. There is currently no way to save a feed.

Can I use the #blurtmob tag in my posts?

If you wish.

Will using the #blurtmob tag get me votes?

No.

Will making comments on @blurtmob posts get me noticed?

Obviously.

Will that help me get more votes?

No.

I notice you are following me but I haven't received a vote in a long time. Why?

Look at the quality of your posts. It could also be just bad luck. There are no guarantees. Life is random.

Why is my account muted?

You must have tried really hard. It also makes my life easier not having to look at posts I will never vote on.

Is there anything I can do to get a vote?

Blurt Better.

I have similar issues regarding voting, so will now follow @blurtmob and see if anything new and interesting appears! ;-)

This reminded me of my task to work on “undo reblurts.”

haha - altho, remind me, why would someone wish to UNDO a reblurt?

To give people the option to do so (i.e., by mistake or by some other personal reason). They’re not required to do so, but just being aware that the choice or capability is there I think there’s value in it.

Plus the dev experience to work on not just front end but dive deep into Blurt’s codes for beginners. Lol

A great motivation to study the codes because of the hopefully “simplicity” of the feature.

I have accidentally reblurted a post I did not want to once. As a curator pushing quality content it is a permanent blight to my brand right there on my feed permanently for everyone to see.

Haha yes get back to work lol

Hahaha. Yes boss/chief! :D

I have also started to use the mute function more often. I usually use it for those who mention spam my account. If you mention my account in all your posts or when your post doesn’t concern me directly, you will get muted and also blacklisted, and will not get any votes from me.

I do not like beggars and suck-ups.

Yes your support comes quietly and in a great way. I appreciate your delegations to my project. Just so everyone knows @saboin is very busy with the development side of blurt but also very generous and thus has delegated a lot of his BP to quality curation projects to his BP can be felt nicely through the whole community so even if you do get his attention it is not the best way to a nice vote. Keep up the good work.

yep, all the beggars coming out now!
Asking questions that are answered in the post is also double-boring.

One good thing, I hope, is to see more reblurts used for good posts that can otherwise get submerged in an ocean of crap.

Hello @blurtmob Thank you for this retention plan of Supporting minnows with quality post. We are very glad that you came through at this time. Blurt to the moon 🌕

Hello Blurtmob, I think you collected the daily feel of all the curators. I enjoy reading and voting, but I love the content that is created new to Blurt and that it contributes some value to the chain.
Now, sometimes users use this medium of personal release, as a kind of anti-stress journal, it can be valid, but that energy I do not like to receive it, for that reason I read them very little.
Although work doubles, it is necessary to be careful with what we vote.
Finally, users should also understand that we are all human beings and everything requires time, which makes us run out, we get tired of our arms and even mind, but I'm sure we do it with a lot of love.
Good vibes Blurt.😘

When I get any topic, I am trying to write something without plagiarism, in beginning I had no idea how to create post, and how to grow in blurt, so I had appealed some big bloggers to give me their votes , I felt that it is like begging , So now I am not asking anyone to give me vote. I am trying to create quality posts , and sometimes I am sharing my good photographies too.

Wow just finding this post and I must say it's cool to be strict, I totally agree to the fact that a lot beg for votes even if they don't put out the word straight.

I'll just keep following the blog feed to see those posts that are worth your reblurt... Maybe get to read more original and cool writeups.

Well done on this one @blurtmob

It is not hard to spot power down actually but if you want to check it manually it becomes tedious and time consuming.
I am not a fan of "labeling" people but adding an "indicator" is one idea?

image.png

I would personally want more data, such as the % powered-down, but I can see what's happening within a few seconds looking at transfers - yes, is tedious with 100s of users.

But my point is more subtle. The aim is to help middle-ranking users to grow, and not just extract. They can do whatever they wish, they just don't get any extra help doing it. So, it is perfectly possible for an account to be permanently powering-down modest amounts and yet still be growing their BP.

I cannot remember its name, but there was a very good app for steemit, designed for curators with multiple ways of screening posts. I didn't use it a huge amount (hence forgot the name) as it was a time I was already moving away from curating towards fintech tokens. Was a good way to discover hidden gems from newbs who were being largely ignored.
Could be a dev project.

Supporting new and deserving members will be motivating and it will be a long journey to develop and grow.

  ·  3 years ago  ·   (edited)

Gifts to Blurt users for little fish are one of the systems/projects that must be implemented, because this is very helpful for developing small fish, without food supply the small fish will not grow up. This means that a large supply of food is needed to raise small fish. If the analogy with fish.

Hopefully your big plan goes well and right.

Bad way of thinking about it - feed your self!
BLURT is cheap - 1 USD can buy over 50 coins.
Many have been doing so in the recent months.

For people who have capital, of course, that's a bad way of thinking. What about those who have no capital? In the real world, there are also many of our brothers and sisters who cannot feed their families, nor can they even feed themselves to find it. So we need generous people who have the nature of tolerance to feed them before they grow up.

They can learn, understand, put in the work and effort to succeed.
That's what everybody has had to do when starting from zero.
if you can't buy your way in, you can work your way in.

I agree with you.

Great initiative 👍 There is a place to see what we are? (minnow, dolphin...)

No, I don't think so.
maybe something @tekraze or @saboin can look into - or tell us there is such a list already.

This was discussed, many times but there is no idea of what level to target as whales on blurt .

But there is a richlist available to check out

Thanks for your answer and your support 😊

I really love this, as a newbie I still have a lot to learn. I bought blurt on Probit to power up... But I don't no how to bring the blurt to my blurt account, I didn't see my address nor my memo..

Can anyone help me please 🥺❤️.

Thank you in advance

If you wish to transfer BLURT from Probit, you just need to fill in your account username - no memo needed - the memo is only needed when sending to Probit as it needs to know how to allocate its funds to which users.

yes i understand what you are saying. indeed the person who gets a gift from you must have good posting criteria for good knowledge. if you see a minimum bp of 10k I don't think everyone has a bp of 10k. there are many small fish have bp below 10k. I don't have a problem with the criteria you support for small fish, blurts just need growth and trust in big whales to catch their eye. I know you won't be able to embrace everything, there must be something left from good posts from small fish. It's natural that in your blog you also have people closest to you or personal people you know. for us small fish only need to think positively about big whales.

There are other initiatives for newbs.
And TBH, a newb who can blog will rise very quickly.
Improve quality and engagement and rewards will magically appear.

I hope you see good posts of new people and you gift them through votes.

You really need to read more carefully - this is NOT for newbs - there are other initiatives to help new users.
otherwise, we could have named it BlurtNOB - and it isn't! lmao

Aha!!! the first time I joined Blurt, @blurtmob was one of my reference accounts..... many creative ideas for blurt progress were born from his brilliant ideas. welcome back to Blurt my friend....

I was very keen to know such kind of information about you blurtmob. And thankfully I got it after many days. In this publication, you have cleared so many doubts and answered a lot of burning questions. You have also explained such things that a users can get a gift from you by following them. I have followed you much earlier so I observed some reblurts by you yesterday and I realised that something is to be happened now.

Great idea, I found your post while searching for tags for my post. I used it even though I haven't reached the 10K BP yet (let me know if I'm wrong so I don't put it on my next posts)

It says quite clearly:

Will using the #blurtmob tag get me votes?

No.

Yep, I read it in your post than using this tag does not give an automatic upvote 😁, the meaning of my comment was more to know if the content of a post can compensate for the BP missing (Yep I believe in my posts 😃).

let me see if I understand your question.
As you currently have less than 10k BP, whether you might still get a vote?
Yes! :-)
I don't even look at absolute newbies - others do that - but if I can see good posts, then I'll give a vote.

Ok, thanks for your precisions which answer my question, and because I forgot to say in my previous answer thanks too for your support on my first comment 😀

To be candid I feel elated whenever I read such a post because we really need to encourage creativity and ingenuity. If our generation really put our writing potentials to the test, then the sky is only our starting point and not just our limit. People simply do not want to task their brains because "Google is the best teacher" but I tell you, our generation in so ingenious that if we task ourselves a little we could be something else.

You that are vanguards of this reality keep the flag flying and surely disciples of such truths will eventually emerge.

Cheers to creativity
Cheers to ingenuity
Cheers to quality content
Cheers to meaningful encouragements
Cheers to blurt

No to cheap and unmerited votes!

Peace ✌.

Votes are gifts - try to remember that and life will be more serene.

Yes, you are right about that, but unfortunately, not all users understand it. Most users feel that if they join Blurt, they will get votes from other users, so they keep trying to produce any post regardless of the quality of the post they make.

But I believe, Blurt has not lost its identity with a passion to spread kindness to others, especially for those who just joined, need to gain an understanding of what they have to do so that they deserve votes from other users as a reward so they can continue to grow.

I will miss your vote but I support this great rebranding and initiative. The reasoning is sound and your target for votes is the core that keeps blurt going, engaged, quality vested users.

Thanks for your curation.

You are a great example of how someone can grow, in both account and influence, without having to be "in the team". Similar to how I grew in the early days on Steemit.

Really, the economy is linear so that nobody has any privileged voting position - indeed, a small account can grow much more quickly than a whale, assuming the post votes are much higher than the user can self-generate.

In compensation, when you have time to reblurt the best posts you curate, then at least they will get some votes.

My advice to newbs remains the same - post about what you know, local stuff - and don't beg, nobody likes whiny beggars. lol.

Well said. I look forward to seeing some of your reblurts.

LOve From Pakistan @blurtmob King

Change is always going to happen. This rebranding is a good one. If not for any other thing, then for the sake of those who do not understand your Curation pattern.

With this update, a great part of what you do is now open to the public and I believe that some people would have to tweak how they run their account if they want to stand a chance of getting something from you.

A quality content may not get decent reward all the time, but it will always stand a chance of getting reward from those that are on the lookout for such content.

Enjoy this and have fun on the job.

I ran a very similar setup way back on Steemit, so I hope this works. At that time, a lot of the interaction was on Discord, but honestly, users need to move away from Discord and onto a platform they can be rewarded.

And yes, the ideal users has good posts, interesting comments and manages their account for long-term growth - easy, really!!

Yeah. Discord is good for interaction, but what happens onchain is the stat that usually makes more impact on the overall growth of the blockchain.

With the right flow of quality Content, it will invariably promote genuine on-chain interaction and of course, the reward will come. Aside from the monetary reward which many people are hunting for, getting to grow our social capital on here is another Important aspect of what we hope to achieve by actively operating on the chain.

Each account need to also see themselves as curators. It's not all about writing and dumping posts. The interaction pays off - one way or another.

Good luck on this one. The method is tested and trusted.
