Hello Everyone!
I hope you are doing well...
Recently I had a cup of pickled Ceylon Olive from a street food shop, It was amazingly delicious. I really wanted more but I already passed the place. I wanted to make the same at home so I could enjoy it as much as I want. I bought a small pack of Ceylon Olives. It's a commonly found fruit during this season. Ceylon Olives are known as "Veralu" in our language.
I often have the freshly made Ceylon Olives drink made by mom. It is one of my favorite appetizers. I really love its sweet and sour taste. It also contains many minerals, vitamins, fiber, and valuable anti-oxidants for good health.
To make pickled Ceylon Olives I first washed the fruit thoroughly with salt and it to boiling water until it was well boiled. The fruit should be soft and easy to absorb all the ingredients to taste better.
This is after boiling, It has a nice fragrance after boiling. Now the fruit is ready to go in the mixture. I made a spicy caramel mixture in a few minutes, here are the ingredients:
- Sugar 1/2 cup
- Water 1/4 cup
- Venigar or tamarind 2 Tbsp
- Chili powder 1 tsp
- Chili flakes 1 tsp
- Pepper 1/2 tsp
- Salt as per your taste
Step 1 - Add sugar into a pan and add water to it. stir and let it come to a boil until it gets a nice golden brown color.
Step 2 - Then add in the spicy ingredients, Chili powder, Chili flakes, and pepper. (You can adjust all these ingredients as per your taste) Then stir the mixture well.
Step 3 - Add the Ceylon Olives into the mixture. Mix well until the spicy saucy mixture combines well with the olives.
Step 4 - lastly add in the vinegar and salt, it will make the olives more delicious and you can have it freshly without storing it inside the fridge.
Ceylon Pickled Olives ready to serve
It's easy four steps and your pickled Ceylon Olives are ready to eat. The taste is amazing. I loved the taste. My husband loved it more, he even asked me if I can start a business with the skill of making pickles. It is a very easy recipe that anyone could try. It's a combination of all-natural flavors and a good healthy snack to enjoy with family.
Thank you for sharing your recipes. This is to be added to the BRB post. Bookmarked.
I never had these type olives before and never heard of it untill now. Usually only had olives served on a alcoholic beverage or on a homemade pizza. Looks delicioso.
Being how I just started working on this small project of mine out of the blue, i was wondering if you could help me label this. Under what category should I write this under in the BRB post?
Hi @yayogerardo
Thanks for your feedback. Usually we take it as a snack but it’s a good appetizer too.
Or a side for the outdoor grilling. I'll put it under "Appetizers & Small Sides". Thanks for the response.
