I had planned a week at a ski resort but it is all canceled. It's been seven days in Quarantina for me and my brother now. I didn't know what I was getting into.

Friday

This was the last day of the school year for me and my brother. The sixth grade class had graduation. Suddenly after school I got a phone call from my mom. She said she got the results from her take home self covid test. She was positive for Corona and I was told to go home from school early.

I’m in fifth grade and have no reason to like school. My teacher is one of those people that started teaching because they thought it was a good job for a young lady and now she is nothing close to young or a lady. The only thing that keeps her from retiring early is she needs money for her hand bag habit and her puppy. In the meantime she tries to make it as difficult for me and my classmates as much as possible.

I was looking forward to the “Spring” Vacation we get in Korea. I call it "Spring" Vacation with quotation marks because it is really not in spring and it is really not vacation at all. It is the last two weeks of February because the new Academic year begins in March according to the Korean school year. It looks like I am going to end up spending “Spring” vacation in Quarantina. When Koreans stay at home they call it "Bang Kok" (Bang = room Kok = stay). Forget Bang Kok... I am going all the way Quarantina.

When I got home my brother was already there and my dad was on his way. When we got the news that mom was tested positive we had to stop what we were doing and join the Quarantina tour. My brother is pretty cool even for a teenager. He got right to work and set up a tent for us three in Quarantina while my mom got the house to herself. All of us were isolated and we were going to make the best of it. We even made a video setting up the tent. My brother and I are good at making videos but my brother says social media is dangerous and I’m too young but dad listens to me and sometimes writes my stories on his blog. I think my brother is just a chicken sometimes.

My dad brought home hamburgers and we watched the Kingsmen. I liked this version because it was educational and kind of historically accurate. It told about how the Kingsmen started, but it wasn’t as fun because it didn’t have Eggsy. In the other Kingsmen movies there is more swearing but in this version it seems that only the bad guys swear.

Saturday

In the morning we all went to get tested for covid. My brother complained the whole way and said he didn’t feel good. This was not a good sign. When we came home each stayed in one room and wore masks. Still we couldn’t resist watching Ghostbusters together. I was surprised to see Dan Aykroyd well no more spoilers. Although the movie was okay we really should have practiced a little better social distancing because at the end of the day my brother was complaining even more about how much his head hurt. I just wanted to go outside and ride bikes and maybe eat one of those ice cream bars… screwbars. I think that’s what they are called. I’d love a bike ride and an icecream bar.

Sunday

I was gloomy because my brother’s test results came back positive for corona. I spent the day listening to birds singing in Bulgaria. I found it on Youtube and thought it would make me feel better and it did. Still I was sorry to see my brother move away to the covid positive apartment and leave me and my dad in the big apartment without mom. I like my dad but I missed my mom. This was not the Sunday I had been looking forward to beginning “Spring” Vacation with.

Monday
Oh no, my dad started to act strange. He couldn’t get up. Only after a long bath was he able to get up and he and I got to the test center and took another PCR test. We were not supposed to stop anywhere on the way home, but I know a place that makes really good meatballs and asked him to stop there. When my dad got to the market it was closed but a Korean Beef soup restaurant was open and we ordered two to go. It’s hard to eat well when you are in Quarantina.

It was now just me and my dad and my dad was not looking himself. He was tired and coughing. I knew just the thing for this. I found some Animaniacs episodes from 1993 and we laughed together until we both fell asleep.

Tuesday

we got the results and daddy was positive for Corona. I alone stand as the only one in our family who tested negative for corona again and again. With this great power I logged onto my clash royal battle league and made a few futile attempts at battle. I then tried my hand at new Minecraft editions. After a couple of hours I was bored. That evening I started to feel dizzy, tired and had a bad headache. I thought I just needed some rest.

Wednesday

I woke up with a terrible fever and spent the morning in the bathtub. When I could finally get up and eat something I had a fever again. I ate just to take medicine and trying to comfort myself by watching the original Muppet Movie with my dad. After that I joined my brother and my mom in the “Corona house”. They had already gotten over their corona and now they are helping me.

Thursday

I have a terribly bad sore through. My fever is going out of this world. At that time I like to sing and tell stories. I just saw a double decker bus pass by my window. I spent the day spitting flehm. Really this is not how I wanted to spend my vacation. I never wanted to be in Quarantina and here I am. I just wanted to ride my bike around the neighborhood and get a screwball ice cream. Now I can’t because I’m the one who is sick.

Friday

I slept in late. I was up at 2am, delirious. My mom stayed with me. Now her Quarantina time is over and she is free to go outside. She is taking me to get a PCR test. I know I'm positive. I've always looked on the bright side of things. I don't know why I need a fragment analysis to prove it. I wonder if this information is going to be on my permanent record. I still have nightmares of my fifth grade teacher. This is a small possibility that she may also be my sixth grade teachers. I can see her screaming at me now,

"This is going to be on your permanent record!"

She'll never get me on record. I put all my music on my hard drive.
