Hello friends it is a pleasure for me to share with you the work we are doing at home to save the life of a pigeon of a bird called potoca whose bird is known in other countries as: tortolita, picui, palomita de la virgen etc.

In my country Venezuela this bird is abundant in the trees that fly from branch to branch and we know it by the name of Potoca. Its scientific name is Columbina picui. These birds usually make their nests in the branches of trees.

In the urbanization where I live there are many trees and therefore the birds roost and delight us with their song we can find birds such as: turpipes, hummingbirds, woodpeckers, pigeons, parrots, etc. This potoca chick has fallen from its nest, we did not see that nest, but we felt when we were gathered in the garden that a little animal fell from above. We immediately ran out and helped it. It was a bit disturbed, it was almost not moving. We decided to help him recover it and then release it.
Decidimos prestarle ayuda recuperarlo y luego soltarlo.

We took the potoca home and made him a kind of nest, he really is a baby, he looks like a newborn. We put some cloth to keep him warm and a lamp with a yellow light bulb to warm his body. He has been at home for two days and is quite lively, to the point that he wants to get out of the nest we prepared for him. My nephews live day by day this experience and they are very excited. We give him water and some cereal to feed him. We have searched the internet for information about potoca chicks and how to feed and treat them.

Something curious happened yesterday in the window of the house a big potoca stood up and we think it is the mother of this potoca that is at home, we do not know if it is ideas of us at home. We do not know what will happen but the potoca is evolving well. It moves its wings and opens them and wants to leave the nest we prepared for it. This bird is really very interesting.

I will continue to take care of her until she reaches a regular size and then take her to her habitat, my nephews are happy to take care of her and give her affection. What we are thinking is that if it grows it may escape, we don't know what will happen. When we had her in our hands we thought she was a pigeon. We feed her with a syringe and put her food, we also give her water, she is very small.

Buena vibra.
