How to Plan and Execute the Perfect Wedding (NOT)

Our only wedding photo, September, 1977

It all started when we were at Sears, and since I wasn't working at the time and needed a battery for my '67 Camaro SS350, and my girlfriend, who was working, was going to buy the battery. So she did, and that day I asked her if she wanted to get married. She said yes, after all, she just bought me a battery!
So then one day, just labor day weekend the next year, 1977, a friend of ours was going up to Tahoe to get married, and he asked if we wanted to go. I looked at him, dug into my pocket and pulled out $60 and said “Sure, why not.”

She and I squirmed into the back seat of his Volkswagen beetle and drove straight through to Tahoe…
...on Labor Day weekend… ...with no reservations… ... anywhere… and $60 in our pocket.

My friend had some corduroy pants (dress type pants) and the ladies looked very nice; nicely dressed and hair all combed, and looking pretty. I looked exactly like I did in that photo.

We got to Tahoe, sought out the nearest minister, and wound up at a ranch outside of town in a rural area that was beautiful. When we walked in, I felt like we were in an episode of Little House on the Prairie, and we went before the minister. He looked at the ladies, smiled, looked at my friend, and smiled, and looked at me, and looked at the ladies and said,
>Do you really want to do this?

I don't remember if I started laughing out loud or not, but the ladies said yes, they were sure. So he continued to marry all of us.

As we drove back through Tahoe looking for a place to stay, all we saw was no vacancy in all the motels. So we continued to push on, wound up back on highway 50, and heading back. We got all the way to Sacramento, and found a motel with one room available. We took it..

... all 4 of us…
...in one little room…
...with one bed.

and directly outside the room was a tow truck with the loudspeaker turned on since he was sleeping in the next room and on call.

Lovely.

Needless to say, by the time we got back, we were exhausted…
...but married.

The photo is mine, any problem with that? hehehe!!

😂😂 Your sense of humor is out of this world! No, I don't have a problem with the photo. It's a lovely, old picture and a nice story to go with it. I'm sure your grandkids love to hear it.

... we were exhausted...but married.

And that's all that matters! 😊
