Dhanushka Gunathilaka vs Discipline and commitment

I guess sometimes you know about the incident that happened to Sri Lankan cricketer Dhanushka Gunathilaka during the T20 world cup 2022. Well he was accused for a rape case by an Australian lady. He is not charged yet, but this is not his first time to get involved in this type of situation. Anyway, I am not going to share about hi, but the lessons that we can learn from this.

Is he not a talented one? Ofcourse he is! He showed his potential at the start of his carrier 6/7 years ago. But he is unable to capitalize that talent and focus to acheive more honourable target. He lacks the self discipline and commitment to do it.

What is the meaning of that? Think about Kohli from Cricket, or Ronaldo, or Myke Tyson. Doesn't Kohli like to party or drink alcohol? He may have wanted all of that. But he has a more noble dream to acheieve. To become the greatest crciketer of all time. To be an icon in the world. So, that dream made him to focus on his own game. That's the self-disicpline he has.

Here self disicpline is not just following traffic rules, or avoiding spitting in public places, respecting elders. They are basic habbits of a civilized man. So, we should have a goal/ dream. And focus on it to acheive from our heart. It isn't mean not to enjoy your life.

Can you remeber Ben Stokes got hammered by Charlos Brithwaite in 2016 T20 world cup final. It just loose the trophy fo England. But he didn't give up his dream. He held his nerve and became invaluable part of the team. One of the best allrounders in the game. He practised, practised and focused on his goal. In 2019 world cup he single handedly won the final match against NewZealnd. Won the Ashes Showing a masterclass chase.
