Birds or Aves are members of the vertebrate family of animals that have the ability to fly, although there are some who do not have this ability. Animals whose bodies are covered with feathers and have wings consist of 8,800 to 10,200 scattered throughout the world.

Physical birds are very diverse, for example large birds such as ostriches which do not have the ability to fly, and hummingbirds which are small in stature but can flap their wings very quickly. There are also penguins that live in Antarctica as birds with the ability to dive and live in extreme weather.

Some bird species are also endemic to an area, for example, moa, cassowary, kiwi and others.

Taxonomy

Birds are vertebrates with feathers and wings. Birds are a class group Aves belonging to the phylum Chordata with the superclass Tetrapods.

Franchis Willaughby and John Ray in 1676 first developed a scientific classification of birds. This classification is recorded in the edition of Ornithologiae. Then in 1758, Carolus Linnaeus changed the classification, so that the nomenclature of bird biology became as follows:

Super KingdomEukaryotaKingdomAnimaliaFilumChordataUpaphylumVertebrataSuperClassTetrapodsClassAves

scatter

Almost all bird habitats are on land and are scattered throughout the continent. An example of an extreme colony of birds is the breeding group of Snow Petrels that live at an altitude of 440 kilometers (270 miles) in the Antarctic region, while most bird species live in the tropics.

Like all living things, birds also adapt to their environment, for example some species of seabirds that come to land only to breed, and penguins which have the ability to dive to a depth of 300 meters (980 ft).

There are many types of birds that breed because of the introduction or introduced by humans on purpose. An example is the introduction of quail as game birds. While the accidental introduction is the formation of wild priest parakeet populations in several cities in North America after previously being released from captivity.
