Mental health is an important part of wellness. The isolation many feel during lockdown can be immense, and the longer we are locked down, the more out mental health can be stressed.

Wellness is a measure of overall health including physical and mental health. To discount mental health could be disastrous to individuals and the health of populations. Mental health has been impacted during the Pandemic, and we need to take steps to bolster our health as a population.

The mental health impacts of the Pandemic and the resultant lockdown have caused economic stress and additionally, those who fear infection by COVID-19 and the loss of vulnerable family have also been affected. The result of this is a blow to mental health. We are social creatures, and isolation along with the instability that has followed has rocked the population. How do we ensure our mental health is maintained?

Ensure that you reach out to mental health professionals if you need it. Talk with your friends and family regularly, and communicate your fears. Save money and cut costs to reduce your economic fears. Exercise and eat well. Do as much social activity as you can through video conferencing, phone calls and meetings as are available with COVID-19 controls where you live.

Take care of yourself, check in with vulnerable family members and friends and reach out to healthcare providers if you need help. We will get through this.
