What is Chronic Kidney Disease: Chronic Kidney Disease is when the kidneys are affected by any disease of their own or any other disease which results in loss of kidney function for 3 months or more. However, in special cases, if the kidney function is lost in addition to kidney disease, it can be called chronic kidney disease. For example, chronic nephritis can gradually reduce kidney function by attacking the kidney filter. This can lead to chronic kidney disease.
Similarly, diabetes or high blood pressure can destroy kidney filters even though it is not a kidney disease. Chronic kidney disease can also occur if someone is congenitally less functional or has a smaller or larger kidney size.
Kidney Filter: Within 6 weeks of being born, the kidney filter or filter membrane is fully formed. That means the kidneys can start working in full force. An adult has about 10-12 lakh filters in each kidney and purifies 180 liters of blood every 24 hours. In this purified blood 1-3 liters of body wastes are excreted through urine. So if for some reason such a filter is blocked then chronic kidney disease can occur.
Need for regular check-ups: Only through awareness can it be known whether a patient has kidney disease. For example, it is important to regularly measure the blood pressure of any adult with or without symptoms, find out if albumin is being excreted in the urine, and diagnose diabetes. If someone is diagnosed with diabetes or suffers from diabetes, they need to be tested at least once a year for albumin and microalbumin in the urine and for creatinine in the blood.
The same rule applies to high blood pressure. 16 million kidney patients in the country: In Bangladesh, the Kidney Foundation and BSMMU have been conducting research on the number of people with chronic kidney disease in Chakulia village of Savar for the last 3 years. A study of nearly 3,000 adults found that about 18 percent had chronic kidney disease.
In 13% of these patients, the creatinine in the blood is above normal, which means that their kidney function is gradually declining. A 2003 study of 15,625 adults in the United States found that 11 percent had chronic kidney disease. This number is 16% in Australia and 10% in Iceland. According to the study, about 16 million people are currently suffering from chronic kidney disease.
Ways to prevent kidney disease: It has been proven that ACE-inhibitors and ARB drugs are very effective in preventing kidney disease. Similarly, if micro-albumin in diabetes is controlled, it needs to be treated urgently. In addition, regular exercise, not eating fast food, control of fatty foods can be established to prevent kidney disease. Also, in some cases, taking anti-fat drugs can help prevent kidney disease without smoking.
And there is relief from the heart disease associated with it.
Awareness of kidney patients and early detection and treatment of the disease will save millions of kidney patients from complete kidney damage. In addition, kidney acozo patients will be relieved from the huge cost of dialysis and kidney transplantation.
