Coronavirus infected with the Director General of the Department of Environment (DG) said. AKM Rafiq Ahmed is dead (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilahi Raziun).
He died at 4:14 a.m. Saturday while being treated at a police hospital.
He has been undergoing treatment at the hospital since March 23.
Dipankar, a public relations officer at the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, confirmed the information in a press release.
He has been on life support since yesterday when his physical condition deteriorated. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
Minister of Environment, Forests and Climate Change has expressed deep grief over his death. Shahab Uddin, Deputy Minister Habibun Nahar, Secretary Ziaul Hasan NDC and officials / employees at all levels.
Dr. AKM Rafiq Ahmed joined the Department of Environment on 22 May 2019 as Director General. He started his career in the Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration) cadre in 1991 and has held various important posts for the last 26 years.
He has previously worked as a Commercial Advisor to the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Dubai on bilateral economic issues related to trade and investment between the UAE and Bangladesh.
He also served as Senior Assistant Secretary in the then Ministry of Environment and Forests and Personal Secretary to the Minister. Dr. Ahmed also served in the Department of the Environment in 2014 as Director (Climate Change and International Conference).
In a condolence message today, the environment minister said, "It is rare for an officer with such a good-natured, pious, honest, efficient and attractive personality."
In his career, he will be remembered for his important role in protecting the country's environment and tackling the adverse effects of climate change at home and abroad.
In a separate condolence message, Deputy Minister Habibun Nahar said the death of an amicable and hardworking official like him was an irreparable loss for the country.
